TWO attempted thefts took place on Tuesday, October 16, when men posing as bogus officials gained entry into houses in Preston.
One man, described as a white male with a suntanned complexion knocked on a door in Penguin Street, Deepdale, at 1.45pm on Tuesday. He told the occupant that workmen had damaged the water mains and that blue dye may be in the water.
After gaining entry, the man who was 5ft 8ins, turned on the kitchen tap and persuaded the resident to step in to the back yard.
Another small man of stocky build with short black hair entered the house, but the thieves made off empty-handed when the householder became suspicious.
The second incident occurred in Richmond Street where a white male with fair hair knocked at the door with the same story.
