CARNFORTH Otters gave their best ever performance in the North-Lancs Individual and Relay Championship at Salt Ayre Pool in September.
Facing competition from larger clubs, including Fleetwood, Preston and Newton Hall as well as Lancaster City, the Otters' Ladies' open relay team had impressive wins, setting new championship records in both medley and freestyle events.
Not to be outdone, the men's freestyle 'cannon' team, in which two swimmers of each (ascending) age group from 12 years to open swim 50m legs, got the touch in a thrilling race to win by a few hundreds of a second from Newton Hall.
The 'Lancaster Trophy' they received has been won by either Fleetwood or Newton Hall ever since 1954, apart from two years when Preston and Accrington were the winners.
Among the other trophies the Otters received was an enormous cup - The Bob Marshall Memorial Trophy - for the club scoring the most points in individual events.
Individual winners were James Tait and Sophie Casson, who broke records that had stood for four and 10 years in the 100 metre breaststroke and backstroke respectively, Kate Docton and Chantal Peach.
The Otters who
compete in the top divisions of the Microleague (9 to 12 years), North Lancs and Speedleague, train at Salt Ayre, Lancaster as well as Carnforth and Heysham, seven years of age and there are currently a very few vacancies at the younger end of the club.
