THE new Funny Girls cabaret venue has been given the seal of approval of the Blackpool Civic Trust.
The former Odeon cinema has had its town trail blue plaque replaced following a facelift by local entrepreneur Basil Newby.
The 1930s art deco building was looking decidedly dowdy until Mr Newby made it the centrepiece of his nightclub operation.
To indicate this is part of the town trail, the building has had a plaque since 1975. But it was removed during refurbishment and as the Civic Trust relaunches the town trail, is the first to go back up. Trust secretary Elaine Smith said we are pleased to see the old Odeon refurbished.
"Inside it's wonderful. The art deco theme has been kept and it's just as the cinema was intended at the beginning."
