In reply to the letter written about the Midland Hotel becoming an international art gallery.
Great idea!
Tate Modern, this is exactly what the area needs.
It would be the focal point of all the creative work that has gone in before (the redevelopment of the sea front, incorporating the 'Tern Project' and other art initiatives).
This could be the turning point in attracting the right sort of people to Morecambe.
Focus the strategy of attracting people to the area on those who can offer investment and creative thinking instead of catering for the addicts and ex-cons.
The evolution of Morecambe has to start with a venture that promotes its identity both nationally and internationally.
This would be a major scoop.
It would put Morecambe back on the map as a serious tourist venue.
We should be trying to attract people from abroad and the south.
The same people who drive past us every day to spend their money in the Lake District.
Pleasant views and coffees on the Stone Jetty are not enough.
Lancaster Council should take this idea, promote it and make sure it happens.
It should be a pleasant change for them to be dealing with people who are passionate about the arts, people who aren't in it for themselves.
When you talk about cultural things, there's loads of money available through grants and lottery.
It's about time we had our fair share!
So come on Morecambe, back this idea, otherwise we may as well start again with a blank canvas, and send in the bulldozers.
Dave French, Windermere Road, Lancaster.
