ADVISORS have been called in to help give Lancaster's pigeon population the bird - without resorting to a cull.
A representative from the Pigeon Control Advisory Service (PICAS), a charity specialising in 'non-lethal' pigeon control, will meet with councillors today (Thursday) to discuss controlling the pigeon problem.
Guy Merchant will meet the council's community services review board and will visit various sites to see the scale of the problem.
PICAS' methods are based on public education to reduce the amount of food available, the introduction of dovecotes where eggs could be removed on a regular basis and reducing the number of areas where pigeons can nest and roost.
Chairman of the review board Cllr Jon Barry said: "I am very much looking forward to what Mr Merchant has to say.
Personally, I am very opposed to culling.
"I am sure PICAS can offer us some humane alternatives that have been successful in other authorities and I hope the review board will consider his suggestions very seriously."
