A POULTON chippy has battered the opposition to be crowned the best fish and chip shop in the north west.
Seniors on Normoss Road has collected the award from the Sea Fish Industry Authority's annual competition to name the best shops in the country.
Seniors will now go head-to-head with seven other regional winners on November 13 at the Caf Royal in London.
The regional award comes after months of public voting, mystery shopping and meticulous assessment by industry experts. Seafish chose Seniors Fish & Chips not only because of its consistently high quality fish and chips, but because of excellent hygiene controls, cleanliness of the premises and attentiveness of the staff.
Brenda Horabin, owner of Seniors, said: "This is the first time that we've entered the competition since opening two years ago and winning the north west title says a great deal about the quality and service from our fish and chip shop.
"Good quality fish and our highly committed team of staff have all helped make our establishment the north west's best fish and chip shop. To be recognised by Seafish is testament to the professionalism, hard work and dedication our staff have shown."
Brenda runs the show with husband Richard and stepson Greig.
Seniors has been an institution for years on the Fylde but the family took it over two years ago and since have made substantial changes, including facilities for the disabled, a larger dining area and car parking.
A drinks licence means that diners can also enjoy a glass of wine with their chips.
