AN argument over whether the central heating should be on, and what they should have for supper, ended with Sauket Mogra assaulting his wife causing injury to her nose.
Blackburn magistrates heard the incident came during a turbulent period in the marriage in February 2001.
After he was convicted in October 2001, Mogra had left the country to look after his mother following the death of his father.
Mogra, 41, of Wimberley Bank, Blackburn, was convicted after a trial and when he appeared for sentence 12 months later the magistrates adjourned for the preparation of pre-sentence reports.
Daniel King, defending, said the incident had effectively ended his client's 14-year marriage to Rukhsana Mogra which had produced five children.
"He concedes that there were difficulties in the relationship and this particular row grew out of all proportion," said Mr King.
"He was out of the country for nearly 12 months but, to his credit, he has made efforts to get it finalised as soon as he returned."
