A 17-YEAR-OLD violinist from Blackburn has been chosen to play with the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London.
Claire Rim is the first musician from East Lancashire to be selected from hundreds of gifted youngsters for a weekend course.
She will attend the Yamaha-Classic FM School of Music this weekend, along with 75 other budding young maestros.
And, as a highlight of the three-day workshop at the Purcell School in Bushey, Hertfordshire, she will play with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of conductor Mathias Bamert.
The orchestra will perform Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique at London's Royal Festival Hall.
Competition for the course was fierce, as four children applied for every place.
Mike Ketley, Yamaha's senior director, said: "We are now in our second year of the school and are absolutely delighted with the response from young musicians from all over the country."
