I AM the captain of Verona Old People's Welfare Association Bowling Team.
We play our home fixtures on no. 1 bowling green at Ashdell (Wyre Borough Council bowling greens).
I see that Thornton won a prize in the recent North West in Bloom competition.
The flower beds at Ashdell have been a wonderful variation of plants with marvellous shades of colour, well set out with not a weed to be seen, and the bowling greens, three of them, and the grass verges have been kept neat and tidy.
One day when I was with Gareth, the gardener, I noticed several strangers there and I asked Gareth what was going on, and he they were the judges of the North West in Bloom competition, and I wished him well in the competition.
The greens and flower beds are a real credit to him and all his hard work and pleasantness has been appreciated by Verona Bowlers and I wish this to be placed on record and my team say 'Well Done Gareth' and thank you for providing the beautiful surroundings at Ashdell.
JM Fielden, Bluebell Close, Thornton-Cleveleys.
