WITH PNE having no game last weekend six PSG members travelled down to the NEC at Birmingham on Sunday to attend the very first Football Supporters Parliament.
Following an introduction from Malcolm Clarke, co-chairman of the FSF, the debate began.
The agenda consisted of The Football League in Crisis, Treatment of Away Fans, Safe Standing, Atmosphere/Racism, Who Runs Football? and Franchise Football.
Some very interesting speakers took the podium but for us FSF vice-chairman Dave Boyle led the way with his talk called Who Runs Football?
It asked should there be a 'fit and proper person test' for those who own and control our clubs.
Dave's talk, although a very serious topic, was also at times very funny, but the part which reiterated the fact that no checks are made on individuals who become directors was the bit that got us thinking.
Fans of Brighton, Doncaster, Chester City, Maidstone, Enfield, Chesterfield and most recently Wimbledon can all vouch for the dire consequences of your club falling into the wrong hands. Only after the damage is done do the people involved become pariahs within football, but by then it's too late!
Of course, we at Preston are sure nothing like this could happen at Deepdale, but then again so too were the fans of Wimbledon who we spoke with on Sunday!
All the changes of recent weeks have been more than a little unsettling, so following the AGM let's hope we can get on with winning some football matches.
