THERE are many ways in which people can make the most of, and support, the British countryside that do not involve cruelty to wild animals. And the tradition, pageantry and excitement of the hunting spectacle can all be retained if live quarry hunts convert to the humane sport of drag hunting.
Studies have shown that hunting with dogs has little or no impact on the fox population; that foxes are not the predators folklore makes them out to be; and that other forms of control are more humane and more efficient.
In the face of such overwhelming evidence, we urge the Government to consign this cruel activity to the history books where it belongs, alongside cock-fighting, bear-baiting and dog-fighting.
