BACUP BOROUGH blew Daisy Hill away with a 5-1 drubbing thanks in part to two goals each from Paul Thompson and Micky Bartholomew.

Daisy Hill set their stall out to make it difficult with a 4-5-1 formation and it took 22 minutes to break the home side down when Thompson raced through onto their keeper who blocked his shot.

Thompson played the rebound to Bartholomew whose perfect ball Thompson finished.

Then Stuart Telfer made a penetrating run sending a crossfield ball to Damon Gledhill whose cross was headed just wide by Bartholomew.

Ian McLellan played a good ball to Telfer who found Thompson whose shot brought the best out of their keeper.

On 26 minutes Lee Kershaw won the ball and immediately set Bartholomew up to make it two.

Gledhill then made a good run with a good crossfield ball to Telfer who played Kershaw in whose shot was well saved.

On 36 minutes Telfer made another forceful run his cross was parried away by their keeper, but only as far as the lively Thompson to score from close range.

Four minutes later Steve Stott put Bartholomew in on goal and he gave Borough a half time four-goal advantage.

During the early stages of the second half Daisy Hill had quite a bit of the ball but without any threat.

Then on 65 minutes Karl Stanley who had replaced Telfer, set up a quality move involving Kershaw and Thompson whose deep cross was headed just wide by Stanley.

On 72 minutes the home side keeper first of all blocked Thompson's shot, then Bartholomew's with Kershaw following up to make it five.

Then 10 minutes from time the game the referee awarded Daisy Hill a penalty which Cunniff converted.

Brent Peters said: "Once we got the breakthrough we then went on to play some top drawer football creating several chances on top of the four we scored.

"We were not quite as effective in the second half which was partly due to Daisy Hill working that bit harder and us letting our standards drop, but the game was over with at half time, with well-worked and well-taken goals."
