TRAFFIC came to a standstill in Blackburn town centre today after a 38 tonne truck clipped Darwen Street Bridge and toppled over.
The truck, from Heath Hill Haulage in Shropshire, blocked the road after jack-knifing.
The driver, who has not yet been named, clambered from the vehicle and was treated at the roadside for shock.
Sgt Stuart Isherwood of the Eastern Division Road Policing Unit said Darwen Street was likely to be closed for a few hours while a recovery vehicle was manouevred into position.
Firefighters were also due to spend the afternoon gritting Darwen Street to soak up diesel fuel that had leaked from the vehicle.
