ROVERS' game against Newcastle was a case of all's well that ends well. Drama and incident are better than a tame one-sided stroll in the park.

The referee usually comes in for blame. But, fortunately, when Graeme Souness could not galvanise his troops, I believe the referee did.

Whether it was simply to try and 'even things up', the referee made about six decisions all in favour of Newcastle, two of which were completely wrong.

You would have to ask the Rovers players themselves, but did that spur them into action with anger at the injustice? They went on to get five with "Tiny" Taylor and, of course, outstanding Dunn together with a good display up front from Dwight Yorke.

But, remember, this was against 10 men and Rovers must be more ruthless in finishing the job. Eighth in the league is a popular position locally at the moment, but that is where the similarities end.

As for Rovers, they can thank the referee for getting them mad and upping the tempo to make Shearer and Co throw in the towel at 4-2. But how would we fare against 11 men?
