AS a customer of Netto I was shocked and disgusted by the sacking of Kimberley Fielding from this supermarket chain for giving away carrier bags that should have been charged for (LET, September 26).

It has always been an objection of mine that customers should have to pay for a carrier that visibly advertises any store, but felt that this was the price the shopper had to pay for a cheaper shopping bill.

If supermarkets wish customers to pay for carriers, then these should at least be plain and unbranded. If however, they wish us to be free walking advertisements for their stores then their branded carriers should be free also.

Kimberley has not committed gross misconduct; she has not been caught with her fingers in the till or been abusive to customers. The young lady merely made a mistake when she gave away £6-worth of carriers.

Why did Netto not accept her offer to pay for them?

I will be taking my custom elsewhere and I hope other customers will follow suit. Why? -- because we should be ashamed and embarrassed to be seen carrying Netto carriers after their shoddy treatment of this young lady.
