THE County Council can afford to demolish Rosehill Junior School, which seemed to me perfectly all right, in order to build another one somewhere else, which must be costing a fortune. But it cannot afford to keep the care homes for the old open, which is unforgivable and wrong.
To me, this seems that it is putting education before the care for the elderly. Considering that there will be more old people retiring, than sixteen year olds going to school in years to come, it does not make sense at all.
In a TV debate in the presence of Tony Blair, there was overwhelming support for the care of the elderly, which came top of the list above education in priority, both in the studio and on telephone votes. So when is someone in authority going to do something about it-- before its too late?
The County Council says it is stepping up on care in elderly folk's homes. Well there's not much sign of that yet and what about those that can't look after themselves?
I can see hospital beds are being full again with old and sick patients on trollies cramming the corridors. This is rank madness.
The county councillors who voted for this should be named and shamed for not having the guts to stand up for themselves. It proves that the Labour Party is no longer Labour, but another form of Conservatism, as everything they do is against socialist principles. I bet Tony Benn is deeply ashamed at what is going on in his neglected party, including the threat of war looming which they can always find money for.
