Clarets skipper Steve Davis reflected on another game without Stan Ternent on the touchline and he admitted: "I think he would have been proud of us."
The manager was laid low back home in Burnley with mouth ulcers as his side produced another fine display to extend their unbeaten run to 12 games thanks to sub Dimitri Papadopoulos's late leveller at Portman Road.
"I think that shows the character that there is within the squad," said Davis.
"It is great to have Dimi on the bench.
"It was strange not to have the gaffer here, he really fires us up in the dressing room before a game but Sam Ellis was the same and he stood in really well for the gaffer."
And it was not only the loss of Ternent that the Clarets overcame, it was the less than ideal preparation of a long coach journey down ahead of the game.
"It was for obvious reasons we travelled down on the day but a six and a half hour trip is not ideal," said Davis.
"We can't use that as an excuse, but it did not help with our slow start."
Burnley were one behind within 70 seconds against Ipswich Town but this is now a team that has a great deal of belief and confidence, created by the unbeaten run that is now at 12.
They got straight back into the game with Arthur Gnohere's second goal of the season and, even though they then trailed for the best part of 75 minutes after a fine goal from Darren Ambrose, they had the last word with the header from the Greek striker.
"I think we showed both our character and our spirit tonight," said the skipper.
"Considering they were a Premiership side last year, and they have only sold a few players, I though we deserved something out of the game, especially in the second half.
"We knew before the game they were a good that is able to pass the ball well so we tried to close them down.
"In the first half they made a bit of space but in the second half we more than matched them.
"In fact the referee ran past me a couple of times and said he thought we would score because we were battering them."
And the fact that they did get that equalising goal did not surprise Davis because he claimed: "At the start of the season we did not know how to win but now it is a bit like we have forgotten how to lose.
"We talked about the lack of confidence when we were struggling but when you are playing with a lot of confidence it makes a heck of a difference.
"The whole team is playing well, we are on a good run and we are creating chances in every game we play.
"It is great to be on a roll like this."
The players only arrived home in the not so small hours of this morning.
