THE touchline whispers were that Phil Wild was the best keeper in the league -- and he certainly enhanced his reputation after this performance.
The Brunshaw shot-stopper produced two wonderful full length saves in the first half then kept out a Mark Robinson spot kick after the break.
Such was the display of Wild that Brunshaw went away feeling they were robbed when really they had their keeper to thank for keeping them in the game.
Wild was soon called in to action to dive full length to turn away a pile-driver from the impressive Ryan Campione. He pulled off an even better save five minutes later to claw away a bullet shot from Craig Robinson.
At the other end, Andy Preston was virtually redundant -- although he did well so hold on to a bullet header from Simon Edmondson who rose to meet Ian Jolly's inviting cross.
But all the goalmouth action was in the Brunshaw area.
Craig Robinson, saw two efforts cleared off the line before the striker's surging run from the halfway line ended in a free kick on the edge of the area -- although Wayne Ingham was unlucky to be penalised for what looked like a good tackle.
And it was from there that Wild was finally beaten after Mark Harrison curled home a cracking free kick.
Burnley had chances to extend their lead when excellent wing back Peter Salmon had a shot deflected before Robinson was inches wide with a header.
But then came Brunshaw's first period of sustained pressure.
Dave Jolly began to get his foot on the ball in the middle of the park and while Brunshaw were wasteful when they got in to goal scoring areas, the momentum began to swing their way.
And that continued in to the second half -- although Wild was again on top form to keep out Harrison's spot kick.
Brunshaw pushed forward and after Tony Dugdale forced a good save out of Preston they drew level. Dave Jolly's free kick fell invitingly to Sean Bannister who volleyed home from close range.
And four minutes later Brunshaw were in the lead when Simon Edmondson's corner was turned home by Dugdale.
After Burnley's early dominance it did appear that they equalised against the run of play when sub Mark Pilling fired home.
But then again you have to remember the Wonderful Wild.
