CLLR Ian Barker's challenge over a so-called ' gagging order' is fascinating to say the least.
Is this another fine example of 'do as I say, not as I do?' Or is he actually finally agreeing that the £100,000 gagging order the Labour group put on ex-town clerk Mr Burrows should be lifted as well in this sudden turn around in 'favour of openness in decision making.'
We already know that Kalimba was paid £5,000 rather than go to court, nothing hidden there as far as I can see; but why did tax payers of the district have to pay the massive amount of £100,000 to Mr Burrows, was he going to take the Labour administration to court, and, if so, what for? Can we also know why the last Labour administration paid £112,000 to Barnfield and then allowed the rules to be changed so the cash could be used to buy the Winter Gardens against recommendations? Can we know the truth behind the £ 2,500,000 loss on Blobby or do we still have to wait for the district auditor's costly reply?
I look forward to answers on all these questions, in favour of openness, of course, Cllr Barker.
S Rigby, Morecambe.
