IN the Citizen dated October 17th MBI councillor Eve Ashworth says her colleagues on the council should pull together and 'forget party politics'.
It's a pity she didn't take her own advice when writing her letter which is an example of prejudiced party political mud-slinging at its worst.
Cllr Ashworth alleges that certain unnamed Labour councillors have misinformed the public on some local issues.
But she doesn't tell Citizen readers what these issues are and offers no evidence to back up her claim that the councillors she criticises got their facts wrong.
Also, because she doesn't name the Labour councillors concerned, they cannot put their side of the case and defend themselves.
This sort of unfair, unproven attack on anonymous members of one party by a supporter of another group isn't helpful to local electors.
As Cllr Ashworth says the public can determine the truth about local politics.
But we can only do this if we are told the full facts and hear all sides of the argument.
I challenge Cllr Ashworth to back up her allegations by naming the Labour councillors she accuses of misinforming the public and offering Citizen readers concrete evidence that what they said was incorrect, that their motives were mischievous and that their only activity as councillors is making petty attacks.
If Cllr Ashworth can't do this she should publicly withdraw her comments.
Please note I am a Labour Party member, not a councillor.
