PRESTON'S Salvation Army band will be striking the right note on Remembrance Sunday when they appear on Granada TV's 'My Favourite Hymns'.

The programme will be broadcast on Sunday, November 10, at 11am although the band and choir actually performed for the cameras at Lancaster Cathedral, several months ago.

The day was particularly special for Chris Woodrow, 70, of Southfield Drive, New Longton. He has served in the RAF and has been playing soprano coronet in the Salvation Army band since he was 15 -- as well as singing in the choir.

He said: "We all wore poppies and performed a number of hymns and it was very enjoyable.

"We did a rendition of the national anthem and the church was decorated with poppies and wreaths.

"Some of the members had to take the day off work to do the show, but you could say we are seasoned professionals now, as it's not the first time we have been on television."

Chris explained that the band and choir has appeared in an advert for a building society.

The band also starred in a Swedish film where they spent the day outside the Metropole Hotel in Blackpool.

Chris said: "We never found out what happened to that film, but we made £1,000 for our branch though."
