COUNTY councillors have visited the site of the proposed animal waste incinerator at Hapton Valley.

The visit was followed by a presentation of the case, and issues, in Rosegrove Unity Club. The decision on the planning applications will be made by county councillors at County Hall on Wednesday, November 13. Residents held a silent protest during the site visit and will be outside County Hall for the meeting next month.

GAWTHORPE Hall's Great Barn is now licensed to hold Civil Weddings and has recently seen the first wedding reception. With underfloor heating, the barn now offers warmth and comfort whilst retaining its air of splendour. After years of lying idle, cold and damp this is an inspired move to retain and use a part of Padiham's heritage.

HAPTON now has a new parish clerk following the resignation of Debbie Tophman who has recently qualified to be a children's nurse. The new clerk is also a former clerk to the council -- Jo Garrigan. Jo is well known in the village for her excellent environmental work and her infectious enthusiasm to make Hapton a great village to live in.

HAPTON'S Remembrance Service will be held at the Methodist Church, Whitfield Street, on Sunday, November 10, following the procession from the church to the Cenotaph.

SUE Cornell, headteacher of Hapton Primary School, was host last week to a speed ball competition at the school. It was organised by Sue and the community initiative team from Turf Moor. Children were allowed five shots each at goal and the cheering could be heard all over the village. The school has held its governors' annual report to parents meeting and the full governing body has also met.
