THE plight of 350 workers who face an uncertain future was raised in Parliament by Leigh MP Andy Burnham who called for an urgent debate on UK textiles and manufacturing.
The threat of closing Bentwood's Leigh clothing factory has put doubts more than 350 jobs and Mr Burnham kept his promise to the workers by questioning the future of the Leigh factory.
He called on Robin Cook, leader of the House, to make Parliamentary time available for the MPs to discuss the serious nature of the issues involved.
Mr Burnham also voiced his concerns about how changes in manufacturing were affecting places like Leigh.
He hinted, however, that further debates on the textile industry would focus more on the responsibility of the British companies, whom he intends to put under the spotlight.
Mr Burnham said: "I will continue to use every opportunity to call for action to help the British textiles industry."
He added: "While these big issues are important, I realise this will be of limited practical help to the Bentwood workers.
"However, I will be working with GMB union to secure the best financial package possible for those that sadly have to leave their jobs."
