MORECAMBE bid for their third run to the FA Cup proper in as many seasons on Saturday, but must avoid a slip-up against unheralded Grantham.

A possible first-round glamour tie awaits, with the likes of QPR, Cardiff City and North-West neighbours, Blackpool and Wigan Athletic waiting in the draw.

There would also be cash benefits from a victory to the tune of £20,000 for getting through to the first-round proper.

If Morecambe do make it through, the draw is due to take place live on Radio 5 and Grandstand at 5.30pm on Saturday.

Grantham's biggest threat could be 20-year-old striker, Jamie Clarke.

Clarke, a prolific goalscorer in the Doc Marten's League, was due to send three days training with Crewe Alexandra this week, under the watchful eye of Crewe supremo, Dario Gradi and has also been attracting attention from Bradford City, Plymouth Argyle and Bristol City.

Clark is no stranger to Morecambe, however, the young striker has played at Christie Park before - ironically enough, at the same stage of last year's FA Cup campaign when he was with King's Lynn.

Jim Harvey's men will be hoping for a better result than their 3-0 defeat at Shrewsbury in the LDV vans trophy.

Morecambe were behind within five minutes when former Nottingham Forest stalwart Ian Woan played in young striker Luke Rodgers.

The highly-rated youngster placed the ball past Craig Mawson.

Morecambe's trophy campaign was more or less over when veteran midfielder, Mark Atkins, doubled the lead from the penalty spot.

The former Premiership title winner with Blackburn Rovers was able to convert after ex-Burscough youngster, Ryan Lowe, was fouled.

Lowe himself completed the scoring with a last-minute header, to give the scoreline a flattering appearance and complete a disappointing evening for a Shrimps side that was hopeful of causing an upset against a side who are struggling in their own division.

Morecambe remain agonisingly close to the play-off zone after they were given a taste of their own medicine against Farnborough at Christie Park on Saturday.

In their previous home match against Leigh RMI, Morecambe won the game with a last minute strike.

However, on this occasion it was the shrimps who were pegged back in the last minute, with Steve Watson netting from 18 yards in order to claim a point for his side.

Morecambe started promisingly with half chances falling to Ryan-Zico Black and Adriano Rigoglioso, but the resilient visitors held out until the 70th minute.

Rigoglioso has been in a rich vein of scoring form this season and it was his 25-yard thunderbolt, from a well-rehearsed free-kick routine - that finally broke the deadlock and put his side ahead.
