HAPPY birthday Daniel Berry! The brave teenager has defied the odds and on Wednesday celebrated his 18th birthday with his leukaemia in remission.
Daniel has spent over a year battling with the bone disease and is now on the road to recovery after a successful bone marrow transplant in May.
Daniel's mum Elaine said: "He is not 100 per cent yet. He has regular check-ups and doctors will never be able to give him the all clear as you never know what the future holds, but he is getting there slowly but surely. The longer we can keep it in remission the better, but we are still taking one day at a time.
"This time last year Daniel was being treated in hospital and his 18th seemed forever away, but he has come so far and we are very proud of him."
Daniel's family, of Crosby Grove in Atherton, decided Daniel has had enough parties for the moment and opted to mark the occasion with a quiet family meal, while Daniel plans to celebrate on the town at the weekend with his loyal mates.
