WESTHOUGHTON has a new pub in Market Street named after its most famous son, the Holywood actor Robert Shaw, born in a little row just across the road.
The star of Jaws and The Sting first made his name as Dan Tempest in TV's"The Buccaneers".
Isn't that a great idea? Instead of changing old pub names to fancy, modern ones, then back again, why not rename the Leigh pubs nearest to where our stars were brought up after them?
The White Horse (to me) could be The James Hilton, the Eagle and Hawk (The Tom Burke) and The Sportsman (The Georgie Fame).
It's almost as good as the golden footsteps concept which has yet to materialise.
