LEYLAND Barracudas are off to the National Swimming finals next month after finishing second in the regional finals in Liverpool.
Among the stars for the Barracudas on the day was Jack Thornton who had a great race in the ten year olds 50m freestyle event, won the 50m backstroke race and also helped his age group team to victory in the 4x25m event. In a nail-biting contest the final placings we dependent on the final cannon event. Rebecca Breakwell and Alex Brewster gave the Barracudas a good start and Lisa Topping and Alex McKay both had fast swims.
Rebecca Smith kept the pressure on as the team were second going into the final 25m.
Ryan Bennett took the final length and although he was narrowly beaten to second place it was enough to secure Barracudas a place in the finals.
