Blackburn Boys U-15...1 Bury Boys U-15...0 - BURY Boys suffered their first defeat of the season in their friendly match against Blackburn. Although it was disappointing to lose after five consecutive wins, they were far from disgraced, and really should have won the game after their domination in the second half.
The first half was a more even affair with defences generally in charge. The Blackburn goal, which was to prove decisive, came from a long ball down the middle which reached a Blackburn forward some 20-yards out, and was struck with great venom over 'keeper, Luke Barlow (Tottington). A great goal to win any game with.
Bury continued to improve and Matthew Garside (Tottington), and Oliver Newton (Philips) both shot wide from good positions. The effort was re-doubled in the second half when Jonathan Berry (Elton), and Damien Quigley (Tottington) driving forward from mid-field.
The massed Blackburn defence were under severe pressure for the whole of the second half, and to be fair, this limited scoring chances to a handful. The nearest Bury came was a speculative lob from full-back Aaron Beeston (Elton), which seemed to be a certain equaliser until the Blackburn 'keeper managed to push it on to the bar and out to safety. As ever, the boys showed great determination and never gave up.
They return to league action a week tomorrow with a visit to Warrington.
