IT was second time lucky for Marjorie Atkinson who yesterday (Thurs Oct 24) was named Bury Woman of the Year 2002.
Mrs Atkinson (73) of Kenmor Avenue, was left speechless when her name was announced as the fifth winner of the annual title.
She had been nominated once before for the award.
The event was held at the Elizabethan Suite in Bury Town Hall.
Mrs Atkinson said: "I am stunned and shocked. Thank you to the person who nominated me and the judging panel for choosing me."
Mrs Atkinson spends her time producing plays for St Stephen's Amateur Dramatic Society and pantomimes for children, which she has done for more than 30 years. And at home, she looks after sick and injured animals.
The mother-of-three also runs a once a week drop-in at her church and each Christmas prepares and serves a lunch for members.
Mrs Atkinson leads the "Astral Players" who perform at many residential homes and clubs for free.
