A THIEF helped himself to some sausages because he was hungry, Burnley Magistrates heard.
The court was told how Neil Linford, 41, had split up with his partner and had left her all the money for food.
Linford, a father of four, of Russell Court, Burnley, admitted two counts of theft, involving razor blades and groceries to the tune of £68.72. He had 53 previous convictions for theft.
The defendant, who was in breach of a conditional discharge, was given a 12 months conditional discharge, with £69 costs and £68.72 compensation.
Mark Williams, defending, said Linford and his wife had separated and they had a joint claim for benefits.
He moved out and left her all the money for food. The defendant then went to stay with his brother, had difficulties getting cash and went out stealing.
Linford and his partner had now sorted out their difficulties and were back together.
