POLICE had to break into the home of a self employed fitter after he hit another car while drink driving.

Burnley magistrates heard Stuart Crossley, 46, had driven off, then got out of his vehicle and walked into his house.

Officers found him lying across his bed and tests later showed him to be more than three times the limit.

Crossley, of Cardigan Avenue, Burnley, admitted driving with excess alcohol, failing to stop and driving without due care and attention.

He was banned for 30 months, fined £200 and must pay £55 costs.

Andy Robinson, prosecuting, said about 5pm, a woman was driving along Sycamore Avenue, Burnley, with her headlights on and slowed at a bend.

As the defendant drove past in the opposite direction, he hit her vehicle, jolting her and then went past.

The woman went to his car and could smell drink on Crossley's breath.

She asked him what he was playing at but the defendant shrugged his shoulders.

Mr Robinson said as the woman used her mobile phone, the defendant got out of his car, crossed the road and went into a house.

Crossley was taken to the police station, where the lower of two tests showed 110 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 mililitres of breath - the legal limit is 35.
