THE jury sitting on the trial of Preston man Andrew Greenwood, accused of murdering law student Janet Murgatroyd six years ago, has failed to reach a verdict.
The jury of nine women and three men was discharged after 13 hours and 20 minutes of deliberations spread over three days.
Greenwood, now 28-years-old, of Sephton Street, Lostock Hall, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Janet.
He was further remanded on bail so that the possibility of a re-trial can be considered by the Crown Prosecution Service.
The case will be considered again in the next fortnight.
The jury was discharged by judge Mr Justice Leveson, who thanked them for the close consideration they had given the case.
