A COMPUTER engineer discovered images of hardcore child porn on a 71-year-old man's computer, a court heard.
After watching Harold Woods delete the contents of certain files, the technician became suspicious and checked in the computer recycling bin.
He was horrified to discover hundreds of images of children having sex with adults and he immediately called the police. When police checked Woods' computer hard disc, CDs and DVDs, they found large numbers of obscene images.
Woods, aged 71, of Dawson Street, Bury, appeared at Bolton Crown Court for sentence. He admitted 12 specimen charges of making indecent images of children.
Woods said that he had downloaded around 1,000 images in a batch from the internet. He said he had looked at only half a dozen of the pictures but admitted filing images.
Defending, John Murray said that Woods felt humiliation, shame and disgrace over his actions.
Sentencing him, Judge Martin Steiger described the 12 pictures he had seen as "utterly revolting".
He placed him on a Community Rehabilitation Order for two years. He was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for 10 years.
