THE new chief executive of Lancashire Police Authority today pledged to make community safety the top priority.
Brian Aldred has been appointment to the new post, where he will develop policy and strategy.
He is currently director of resources at Lancashire County Council and treasurer to the Lancashire Police Authority.
Mr Aldred began his career with Cheshire County Council in 1972, becoming assistant chief auditor in 1982.
He was deputy director of finance with Bolton Council from 1982 until 1985 when he joined Lancashire County Council as deputy county treasurer.
He became County Treasurer in 1992 and was appointed to his current post in April 2000.
He said: "The police authority has an increasingly important role to play in community safety and in tackling crime and disorder in general.
"I am really pleased to have been given this brand-new opportunity with the authority at this critical time in its development."
Chairman of the Lancashire Police Authority Coun Ruth Henig said: "I am delighted Brian has accepted the role of chief executive.
"This is an important new post, created following a best value review earlier this year. Mr Aldred will lead the police authority team and his role will be to develop the vision, policies and corporate strategies.
"He will provide advice to members, raising the profile of the authority and its values and liaise with Lancashire Constabulary.
"I know that when he takes up his new position in the New Year, Brian will bring the same commitment and drive to Lancashire's Police Authority as he has given the county council over the last 17 years".
