IT proved to be unlucky 13 for the Clarets as league leaders Portsmouth ended their unbeaten run at 12 at Turf Moor this afternoon.
A fine strike by Nigel Quashie in the 22nd minute was followed in the second half by a freak one from Svetoslav Todorov in the second half that somehow bounced over the diving Marlon Beresford before Steve Stone gave Kevin Harper a simple chance to make it three late on.
But Burnley had enough chances to get at least a point and paid for some bad misses, not least when Dean West blasted a penalty over the bar.
But the visitors showed why they are currently top of the table with some fine play, especially in the first half.
In the first half division one pacesetters Pompey deserved the lead given to them by Nigel Quashie in the 22nd minute.
The chance was created by Svetoslav Todorov and the pair combined well again only for Beresford to save.
At the other end Shaka Hislop was rarely troubled although he tipped over from Gareth Taylor.
For the third successive game the Clarets were unchanged as they welcomed leaders Portsmouth to Turf Moor.
Pompey had to make a change as Gianluca Festa was unfit as Harry Redknapp's side looked to end Burnley's 12 match unbeaten run.
