ELDERLY residents are set to benefit from a new council partnership, aimed at supporting independent living.
Blackburn with Darwen Council Social Services department is working with Portico Housing Association to develop extra sheltered accommodation at St Margaret's Court, in Blackburn.
The Cherry Street facility has been completely refurbished and now has all the appropriate equipment for elderly residents to enjoy more independence.
New features include better wheelchair access, en-suite bathrooms with grab rails and walk-in showers.
St Margaret's Court will provide up to 28 extra care flats to give people an alternative to residential care.
Executive member for Social Services Coun Sue Reid, said: "We are determined to improve quality of life for people in the borough and modernise services".
St Margaret's Court is due to welcome its first residents soon. Application forms for the scheme can be obtained through the Social Services department at Jubilee Street, Blackburn
