COLNE recorded their first NWCL Division Two victory in seven attempts by overcoming Daisy Hill at New Sirs.
While his side ran out deserved winners, boss John Lister was left to wonder how it took 85 minutes for the victory to be guaranteed.
"I think we've missed more chances in that game alone than we have all
season," he said.
"The game should have been over by half time, we played some marvellous stuff and really battered them early on, but our failure to put them to the sword nearly cost us."
In the opening stages the home side's goal was continually under siege as Colne poured forward with real menace.
Paul Barrett, a new signing from the Burnley school of excellence, saw a brace of opportunities go astray, but on 23 minutes he struck a sweet shot from 25 yards out to make it third time lucky.
Shortly before the interval the visitors moved into a two goal lead thanks to Bernard Morley who made no mistake from inside the box after a Gavin Richards cross.
Richards then turned from provider to scorer to make it three on 53 minutes, yet a quick-fire brace from Dixon threatened to turn the game on its head.
However, having hit the woodwork on four occasions, had goals ruled out for offside and efforts cleared off the line, Colne were good value for their triumph which was finally sealed five minutes from time through a George Craddock penalty.
