CLITHEROE produced six of the best as they demolished Alsager at Shawbridge.
They went ahead on two minutes when Gary Jackson broke clear on the left and his low cross was met by Lee Cryer who scored after the keeper had saved his first volley.
Alsager hit back and only a point-blank save by Kris Richens stopped an immediate equaliser. Clitheroe were by far the better team in the opening exchanges with Jackson, Jason Jones and Cryer all going close to scoring.
Alsager equalised against the run of play with a header from a free kick, but from then on it was all Clitheroe. Jackson restored the lead on 37 minutes when he cut into the box and scored from a Neil Spencer pass. Spencer, Stuart Todhunter, Jones and Simon Garner ran the midfield and the visitors had no reply to their slick passing and running off the ball.
Cryer added his second after 57 minutes when he broke clear to score with a low shot into the corner. Jackson scored again on 65 minutes from a Jones cross to give the Blues a 4-1 lead.
It was now one-way traffic and it was no surprise when the excellent Jones added his name to the scoresheet after a neat one-two with skipper Cryer. Barrie Hart got in on the scoring spree with a shot on the turn after 90 minutes to complete the 6-1 scoreline.
A healthy crowd of 220 saw the Blues create chance after chance. With injuries to key players beginning to clear up, Clitheroe must still be among the favourites for the league title.
