Moor Green 2-1 Leigh RMI - LEIGH manager Steve Waywell branded his players "pathetic and embarrassing" after seeing them dumped out of the FA Cup by Moor Green.
RMI dominated the first half but were on the wrong end of a giantkilling as ex-Wimbledon striker John Gayle scored a goal in each half for the Dr Martens League strugglers in a result that cost RMI £20,000, the cash reward for reaching the first round proper.
The Railwaymen took control of the early stages with Ian Monk doing all the damage. as the Moors found his electrifying pace down the right side impossible to cope with and their frustration was evident as a number of ferocious challenges littered the half.
Ironically after so many crunching tackles, it was a niggly foul from centre half Chris Gillard that gave Leigh the first of two penalties 20 minutes before the interval - Dino Maamria sending Adam Rachael the wrong way from the spot.
Maamria had an identical opportunity ten minutes later after Monk's pace had duped Guy Saunders into an ill-timed lunge, but the Tunisian was desperately unlucky to see his effort stay out off the inside of an angle.
It proved to be the turning point in the game as the visitors were rattled by Moor Green's physical approach.
The hosts levelled matters on the stroke of half-time when Gayle breezed through to hit a powerful shot past Stuart Coburn before putting them ahead with a sensational overhead kick in the second half.
RMI needed a response but the midfield capitulated under the pressure and Leigh never looked like responding with only one Neil Tolson shot on goal to show for a pitiful second half
Leigh's disappointment at missing out on FA Cup glory was slightly tempered by a friendly draw in the LDV Vans Trophy Second Round.
RMI will take on Third Division Wrexham at Hilton Park in the Northern Section, with the game likely to take place on Tuesday November 12.
