BLACKBURN Gilbert and Sullivan Society will stage the historic first public concert at the town's new Thwaites Theatre on Saturday.
When the theatre opened at a star-studded weekend gala it was the realisation of a 20-year dream. Now, the G and S specialists will officially bring the curtain up with a performance spanning grand opera and comedy classics.
Anne Rigby, the G and S society's publicity officer, said: "We are delighted and proud to be the first local organisation to use the fantastic new Thwaties Theatre.
"This is a milestone for us, and is the end result of years of solid slog, hard work and determination by so many people -- many of whom are members of the G and S."
Gilbert and Sullivan In Concert will go on stage at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5, concessions £4. Call 01254 57663. All proceeds with go to the Blackburn Theatre Trust.
The opening season in Ewood will continue with a revival by Blackburn Drama Club of its acclaimed production of John Godber's infamous comedy Bouncers on November 8 and 9, and there will be a Theatre Open Day on November 10.
