A MOTHER of three is pressing for traffic calming measures after her four-year-old daughter broke a leg in an accident involving a car.

Tia Taylor was hurt after running from behind a parked vehicle outside her home in Cornwall Drive, Bury.

Although the driver was not speeding her mother Brenda and many neighbours feel it highlights problems in the drive.

Tia was on her way home from a friend's house when the Nissan Micra, driven by a 42-year-old local man, collided with her. She was treated at Fairfield Hospital for a break to her lower left leg, and grazes to the face.

Brenda said: "Thankfully the car that hit Tia was not going too fast and I don't blame the driver. He feels terrible about it.

"The problem is that we have all sorts of boy racers who come up the road at incredible speeds. If it had been one of them it would have killed her. It shows that we need to have something like ramps. You only need to think about what could have happened.

Neighbours plan to get a petition together and lobby ward councillors in Redvales. Many have called for speed bumps.

Police say there have been numerous complaints about speeding traffic on the road.

Ian Lord, road safety manager for Bury Council, said: "The petition is something that we will be happy to consider and take on board.

"We will certainly take a look at that particular area and see what problems there are there that can be addressed."
