DEAN West has agreed a new deal with the Clarets that will keep him at Turf Moor until the end of next season.
But negotiations are continuing with goalkeeper Marlon Beresford in the hope of securing his services for the same length of time.
Manager Stan Ternent confirmed today: "I've sorted Westy out and I'm still on with Marlon."
Both men have been on a month by month contract, last season's player of the year West since the end of his previous contract in the summer.
It was always manager Stan Ternent's intention to give the 29-year-old right back an extended deal but his hands have been tied by the cash problems in the wake of the collapse of ITV Digital.
West had not scored for Burnley before the start of the season but he has struck twice this campaign, although he did miss from the spot against Portsmouth at the weekend.
He first played under Ternent at Gigg Lane where the pair enjoyed great success with Bury and he made the move to Burnley in the summer of 1999, playing a big part in the promotion campaign. He is an ever present this season.
Beresford, who shone while on loan to Burnley from Middlesbrough earlier this year, was out of his contract with the Teesside club in the summer and spent pre-season with Burnley.
Third division York City then offered the 32-year-old a month long contract at the start of the season and it was not until the first week in September that he came back to Turf Moor on a similar deal.
He has been in superb form and had not been on the losing side in 11 games until his error contributed to the home defeat by Portsmouth on Saturday.
Such was his form that Ternent felt able to allow Greek international Nik Michopoulos to go out on loan for a month to Crystal Palace.
Ternent has said he wants to keep Beresford until the end of next season but some more talks will have to take place before an agreement can be reached.
Both men will be in action for the Clarets against Grimsby Town tonight as Burnley look to end the month on a high after the disappointment of seeing their 12-game unbeaten run ended by Porstmouth on Saturday.
The Clarets have been boosted by the recovery of key defender Ian Cox who limped out of the weekend game after clashing with Pompey midfielder Nigel Quashie.
Assistant manager Sam Ellis said: "Coxy has trained normally since then and we have not got any other injury worries going into the game."
He is confident the Clarets can bounce back to winning ways at a ground where they have suffered defeat in both of the past two seasons.
Keeper Michopoulos is on his way back to Burnley after playing four games in a month while on loan at Crystal Palace.
The international star was signed on loan by Trevor Francis as cover for the injured pair of Matt Clarke and Alex Kolinko but the Palace boss said: "Kolinko is fit again and his month is up so we will be sending Nik back to Burnley."
Michopoulos lost his place in the Clarets side when Marlon Beresford came back ahead of the match at Derby when they won for the first time this season.
Beresford is currently in talks about a new contract and Michopoulos will be determined to put pressure on him for a place in the side.
