THE search is on to find the county's top young citizens.

The Young Citizen Award scheme seeks to celebrate and reward the achievements of individuals, in particular those who have put others before themselves.

The award is open to young people aged between 12 and 19 who have carried out caring work or helped their school, family or friends for at least six months.

The winner will walk away with £500 -- £250 for themselves and the remaining half for their nominated charity.

This year's search is run by the Lancashire Partnership Against Crime and sponsored by Transco.

The High Sheriff of Lancashire Thomas Bowring said: "This scheme aims to recognise some of the county's unsung heroes. They always have a smile on their face despite suffering hardship, pain and adversity."

Nomination forms are available from schools and police stations or by calling Ian Groundwater or Al Yusuf on 01772 618733 or 01772 618796.

Applications can also be made on-line via the website www.lanpac.co.uk and the closing date is December 31.
