ROBBERS threatened to slit a customer's throat during an armed raid on a Greenmount post office.
The terrified woman had a machete held to her neck by one man while his accomplice ordered the sub-postmaster to open the security doors.
The two men had followed the woman into Greenmount Post Office in Holcombe Road shortly after 3pm on Friday. Both offenders were armed with machetes.
After holding the woman hostage and forcing the 52-year-old counter clerk to allow them into the rear security area, the raiders escaped with an unknown quantity of cash in a stolen Renault Laguna, registration number P910 MVR.
PC Ken Rose, of Bury's Operational Police Unit, said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for the female customer and the postmaster. The offenders threatened to cut the woman's throat unless the postmaster acceded to their demands.
"Both men, who are only described as white, were armed but their faces were masked by scarfs. We are very keen to speak to anyone who saw the raiders enter or leave the post office."
Anyone who can help police with their investigations into the armed robbery should contact Bury CID on 856 8150 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
