REGARDING your story headlined "Major amounts of cash pouring in town" (LET, October 14), for a ghastly moment, I thought that Darwen was being mistaken for Gotham City with the dynamic duo, Councillors Dave Smith and Andy Kay, fighting the rest of city hall to provide funds for the ungrateful population of the town.
Batman and his sidekick have joined forces to try to convince us that we have been so lucky over the last 12 months to have received £5million in investments for three major projects plus monies that have been provided for repairs to Darwen Tower.
Are they correct in what they say? Well, yes and no. This money has not been spent in the last 12 months -- this the only money that Darwen has seen in the 28 years the Blackburn has had control over us.
That works out at £178,571 per year -- not a very good return for the hundreds of millions that have been squeezed out of Darweners in the form of council taxes.
If Coun Smith thinks that we as Darweners are ungrateful, he is mistaken, but you have to do something right in the first place for it to be appreciated.
Also, if Andy Kay is happy with the amount of investment that is being put into Darwen, we as Darweners do not have much chance for the future.
ROY DAVIES, Olive Lane, Darwen.
