BLACKBURN Rovers' Under 19s marched to another impressive win at the weekend which ensured they returned to the top of the table.
Rovers' young guns won 2-0 away to Huddersfield in a game which was played at the former ground of Unibond League side Wakefield and Enfield.
And team coach was delighted with the way his players applied themselves in conditions they wouldn't normally encounter at Brockhall.
"I thought our lads adapted brilliantly on the day," said Kelly.
"Without being disrespectful to Huddersfield, everything was set up for an upset. The pitch had a slope, it was blowing a gale, and the facilities were fairly basic.
"But we stuck to our task, dug in, and got the result we wanted."
Clear goalscoring chances were few and far between in a scrappy first half but Rovers visibly upped the tempo after the break and they gained their reward with two goals.
The ever-reliable Jerome Watt grabbed the first from the penalty spot to maintain his excellent goalscoring record before Jemal Johnson then made sure of the points with his side's second from an Ian Black corner.
"I was pleased with our overall approach to the game more than the result itself," added Kelly.
"I told the lads before the game that these were the kind of conditions they might face if they were to make it professionally and perhaps draw someone in the FA Cup.
"And I couldn't fault them for the way they then set about getting a result."
Ian Miller's Under 17s were without a game at the weekend but they will return to action together with the Under 19s when both sides play host to Middlesbrough on Saturday (kick-offs 12 noon).
