A MAN said to have attacked his niece's estranged husband after a bonfire party may be facing a retrial.
Roger Atkinson, 55, had been accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent but the jury in the case was discharged after it failed to reach verdicts after four and a half hours.
The defendant, of Blaschemy Square, Colne, had denied the charge during the two day trial at Burnley Crown Court.
The jury had heard claims Atkinson turned up at a house and butted the complainant David Loughlin.
He was then said to have stamped on Mr Loughlin's face before kicking him about the head and body.
Mr Loughlin suffered a double fracture of the lower jaw in the alleged attack and had to have an operation.
