CART drivers will be pulling out all the stops to raise cash this weekend.

Competitors from Blackburn and the Ribble Valley will be challenging for the title of soap box derby champion.

And the top gear event organised by Langho FC Sports and Country Club will raise money for the Lancashire Evening Telegraph Magic Eye Appeal, which currently stands at £155,371.

Around twenty home made carts will be lining up on Sunday - ready to be launched from a low-loader trailer.

The 500 metre course starts at Kemple View, off Longsight Road in Langho, and finishes in the club's car park. Competitors will be timed over two legs of the downhill course.

Club chairman and organiser Malcom Goldsworthy said: "We are expecting a fun family event with lots of excitement, thrills and spills. The soap box derby is open to both businesses and individuals and we would like a big crowd to come along and cheer on the competitors.

"All the money raised will go to the Magic Eye appeal and if it is a success, we hope to make it an annual event."

Carts should be no longer than 7 feet and 4 feet wide and all drivers must wear protective head gear.

Entry to the race costs £10 and can be done by calling the club on 01254 245976. Entries will be accepted up to an hour before the event starts at 1pm.
