FIREFIGHTERS were called to a smoke-logged house last night and discovered a potentially lethal chimney fault.
Crews from Blackburn were called to the address in Redlam at around 6.30pm after the owners complained of smoke.
When firefighters arrived they discovered the smoke was coming from a faulty chimney next door, which was also pumping out carbon monoxide.
Leading firefighter Dave Hilliard said: "Every fire gives off carbon monoxide, some more than others.
"If these people were in bed they could have easily been overcome by the fumes, which is extremely dangerous and potentially lethal."
Firefighters also informed next door of the problem. A builder is to fix the chimney.
