THE MAYOR of Blackburn with Darwen has help to launch this year's Poppy Appeal.
Coun Tony Humphrys was among dignitaries at Manchester's Imperial War Museum North to highlight the work of the Royal British Legion in Lancashire and put the spotlight on the North West.
Royal British Legion vice-chairman, Ian Coleman, and Burnley Poppy Appeal organiser Eric Midgley all attended the launch, along with young representatives from the Army Cadets, Air Training Corps and Sea Cadets many of whom help with collections each year. BBC TV presenter Gordon Burns was also there.
Last year the Poppy Appeal in Lancashire alone raised more than £365,000.
John Hardiman, Lancashire county field officer at the Royal British Legion, said: "The legion makes a vital difference to people's lives.
"In the last year over 700 individuals and families have been helped with financial grants in Lancashire alone."
